Policies & Terms
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS CAREFULLY. SIGNING UP MEANS THAT YOU FULLY AGREE TO OUR POLICIES.
How do I sign up for a subscription?
all subscription sign-ups are done through Farmigo. it can take us up to 3 days to process your registration. your first pick-up will be scheduled accordingly (i.e. if you picked a location that meets on Mondays, you’ll be able to register up until Friday at midnight to receive your first share that following Monday). if we can accommodate you earlier, we will notify you by email.
subscriptions to the Village Fishmonger CSF are 12 weeks long and accepted on a rolling basis, so your 12 weeks start when you sign up with us.
How do I pay for my subscription?
all subscription payments must be made through Farmigo via credit card. we accept Mastercard, Visa, and American Express. subscriptions must be paid in full upfront –- we will charge you for a full 12 weeks:
- for weekly subscriptions, you are committing to and paying for 12 deliveries over 12 weeks
- for bi-weekly subscriptions, you are committing to and paying for 6 deliveries over 12 weeks
you will receive an email confirmation of your sign-up and payment.
Village Fishmonger CSF runs year-round — during your initial sign-up process, you’ll have the option to auto-renew your subscription once your initial 12-week subscription has lapsed. or if you choose to renew your subscription manually — you’ll receive an email from us reminding you to renew your subscription for the next 12-weeks!
PLEASE NOTE: ALL VILLAGE FISHMONGER SUBSCRIPTION PURCHASES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Village Fishmonger works with small boat fishermen directly to harvest our seafood using responsible catch methods and paying them up front helps incentivize them to continue sustainable fishing practices.
What will I receive in my subscription shares?
there are currently 2 shares sizes that you can choose from. shares can be received weekly (equivalent to 12 share distributions) or bi-weekly (equivalent to 6 distributions).
* medium Share –> ~2 lb fish (or equal value) per distribution, which will comfortably feed a family of 2 for 1-2 meals
* small Share –> ~1lb fish (or equal value) per distribution, which will comfortably feed a family of 2 for 1 meal
fish will arrive as boneless fish fillets, shellfish will arrive rinsed and scrubbed, ready for raw consumption (in the case of clams and oysters) or to be cooked.
Please Note: We cannot guarantee that every fillet will be 100% boneless.
we’ll be sending a “weekly catch” notification on a weekly basis to let you know what type of seafood you’ll be receiving that week. it is a non-binding description, as we may have to change the composition of your share based on product availability and freshness.
Though the climate and weather conditions in our area tend to be mild, which allows year-round commercial fishing, at times there may be a chance that Village Fishmonger will need to cancel a delivery because of hazardous weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances that threaten the safety of our fishermen and drivers. If we cancel a delivery, we will extend the season to compensate you for the missed delivery.
What should I expect at the pick-up location?
we will maintain your seafood shares at the proper temperature in accordance with city, state, and federal regulations during processing, delivery and distribution. shares will be pre-packaged in recycled butcher paper and a paper shopping bag.
but in order to maintain proper temperature once you have picked up your share, please consider carrying your fish in a small cooler or insulated bag, especially if you are far from home or your fish isn’t going straight into your refrigerator. seafood needs to be kept cold, so plan your post pick-up schedule accordingly. we strongly recommend you place your seafood in a refrigerator (set to 32 degrees) as soon as possible after picking up your share. fish is best stored on ice in the refrigerator either wrapped in moisture-proof paper or plastic wrap. Village Fishmonger is not responsible for what happens to your share after you pick it up.
What if I can’t make it to the scheduled pick-up?
please ask family, friends, or neighbors to pick up your share and it is advisable that they bring a cooler or insulated bag to transport the share.
if someone else is picking up your share, please advise us in advance via email and please make sure that they know the primary name on your contract. all share pick-ups will require a signature on our delivery lists next to the member’s name. we are not responsible to you if someone else picks up your share.
any unclaimed shares after the site’s pick-up deadline will become property of Village Fishmonger to be used as we see fit (i.e. donation to food pantry). if for whatever reason you miss your scheduled pick-up, we cannot and will not make up that missed share.
What if I’m going out of town?
you can request a vacation hold once during your subscription period by contacting us at least 7 days before your next scheduled distribution at info@villagefishmongernyc.com.
we request that members consider their schedule before signing up as it is difficult for us to work around members’ prolonged period of absence because we pay our fishermen in advance. however, if you are going to be out of town or unavailable to pick up your shares for a prolonged period due to unforeseen circumstances, please contact us at info@villagefishmongernyc.com for further discussion.
What if I have allergies or religious dietary restrictions?
Village Fishmonger is aware that many people have seafood allergies and food restrictions and will attempt to take appropriate care in relation to food allergies and intolerances advised to us by our members during the sign-up process. Village Fishmonger has Department of Health and Seafood HAACP certifications, and we will take every appropriate step to ensure the safe preparation, storage, and delivery of your share.
however, due to the fact that our kitchen is exposed to all food types, we take no responsibility for any adverse reaction by any member to the seafood prepared by us. we cannot guarantee, represent, warrant or promise that our seafood will not be exposed allergens or other intolerances.
our products are prepared in a fully operating licensed NYC kitchen shared by other operations. while every appropriate effort will be made to prevent cross contamination, the member must be totally aware and accept that by consuming food prepared in these kitchens, allergens and other intolerances may be present from other operations. alerting us of any known allergies or other intolerances is vital when signing up.
Note To All Members: Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish or eggs may increase your risk of food-borne illness.
in addition, while we can omit non-kosher seafood from your subscription shares, we do not and cannot process the seafood in a kosher facility or via kosher practices.
please explicitly outline your dietary restrictions in the subscription sign-up process or email us at info@villagefishmongernyc.com to make sure that we are aware of them and can accomodate them.
What if I want to make a change to my subscription?
once you’ve purchased a subscription and you have started to receive distributions, you may change your pick-up location via your Farmigo account.
for changes to be effective for your next distribution, they must be submitted between the day after your most recent pick-up date and 9am of the day before your next scheduled pick-up (i.e. if your pick-up date is Monday, then you can make a change between Tuesday and the following Sunday at 9am). otherwise, changes will be applied to your next distribution.
if you wish to change your subscription type for any reason, please email us at info@villagefishmongernyc.com.
as stated previously, all Village Fishmonger subscription subscription purchases are non-refundable. Village Fishmonger works with small boat fishermen directly to harvest our seafood using responsible catch methods and paying them up front helps incentive them to continue sustainable fishing practices.
What if I don’t like what is in this week’s share?
Village Fishmonger will provide recipes and handling instructions for each share distribution so that you can get the most enjoyment out of your share for that week. but if you’re really in the mood for something else, feel free to use our Facebook page (facebook.com/villagefishmonger) to initiate swaps, trades, or purchases with other members. your arrangements must be made directly with other CSF members. Village Fishmonger does not guaranty any swap, trade or other arrangement with other CSF members.
